Presidents Message
Dear Members, Seeds of Friendship Scatter seeds of friendship everywhere you go; Scatter bits of courtesy - Watch them grow and grow. Gather buds of friendship, keep them till full blown You will find more happiness than you have ever known. The above poem was written by Amy R. Raabe and it is certainly captures the feelings of De Anza District's Convention. For those of you who missed it, there will be recap at our May 4th meeting, but the friendships that are strengthened and developed at the Convention must be experienced first-hand. A big round of applause to our own Gertrude Moore who chaired the convention. Everyone seemed to have a great time. Many thanks to Willie Bourgeois and her Scholarship committee for the super award recipients they decided upon. Cindy Garcia, Perris High School, and Johnathan Blahut were very gracious, warm, and exceedingly well spoken when they attended our Youth Appreciation Day. Evidently the committee had a wealth of candidates to end up with such well-deserving honorees! If you can attend the high schools' scholarship presentations, please do -- it is quite exciting to see how great our young adults are. Even though our club year only has a month to go, we are very busy planning for the Gone With the Wind scholarship fundraiser. Please read the article in this newsletter to see how and when you might be able to help. This fundraiser is different from anything we've tried before, but with your help and support, it will be successful. See you Monday, May 4th when we will be dining on a delicious Cinco de Mayo lunch and hear how not to get taken from auto repair shops. THANK YOU! As some of you remember, it is the luncheon money that pays to send our coupons to service people overseas. And so far this year, we are getting a record turnout for our monthly meetings and luncheons. Even though we provide the food, as we did for the International Luncheon, we still pay the $10.00 and it counts up. So far we are ahead in the postage account! Please continue to come to the meetings, and smile as you see my outstretched hand at the sign-in table. It is for such a good cause! Thanks. Joy Sullivan, Treasurer

PVWC THEME: Puting Our Visions to Work in Our Communities Call Pat Kelley at (951) 928-0867 or http://cfwc.org/perrisvallywomansclub for more information Message from 1st Vice President, Ellie Pledger: WHAT A CONVENTION!!!!!!!!!!. We had a marvelous time and the whole convention was very well done, interesting and lots of fun. The food was great, ambiance superb, accommodations very nice, and the atmosphere was full of joy and good will. I was not ready to come home even though I knew that I had no choice, but I look forward to next year's convention and personally hope it will be in the same place. We had a new fundraiser, which was dreamed up by Jacki Antee,...BINGO...which we played for 45 minutes. It was very successful as well as fun. Our skit was a blast and most everyone loved it. We had so much fun doing it too. Gertrude, if you keep on doing such a great job as Convention Chairman, you most certainly will have a steady job. Willie B. was on top of getting the goody bags done and she had lots of helpers. Thanks to all who work so hard on these conventions. Plan on attending the May 4th meeting, for President Pat has a great deal on her agenda and I believe you will enjoy it. Please take one or two hourly reporting sheets with you....complete them and turn them in. As of now I am receiving very few and I keep trying to impress upon you the importance of telling us about your volunteer hours and your $'s donated to charities. Lump this $ amount gals for it matters not the amount but the fact that you tell me so I can add it to the others. Keep a pad in one place and jot down the information daily. This is the only way I can keep track and I suggest it to you to try. Thank you for your efforts. PVWC DEAN: Ellie....... GONE WITH THE WIND SCHOLARSHIP FUNDRAISER Take a trip back in time to 1865 and the Tara Plantation for this ""Gone With the Wind" Scholarship Gala! Marilyn Rogers' home, which is styled like an antebellum mansion, and in honor of the 70th anniversary of "Gone With the wind" will be the focus of our garden Tea Party and Home Tour on May 16 between 1-4 pm at 21925 Garden Drive, Nuevo, CA 92567.
Marilyn Rogers' and Gus Moore (who is wearing a terrific Rhett Butler-hat) will be the hostess and host. Soft mint julep and tea with light refreshments will be served in the backyard poolside gardens. Four rooms will be available for touring; and Bonita Welsh has gotten dancers for demonstation dances. Narsis Williams will sing gospel songs and a pianist will be playing in the house. Shelley Peters, a Civil War costumer, and a couple of Civil War soldiers will be walking around providing atmosphere. Thanks to Shelley, several people who are into Civil War costuming have purchased tickets. What is desperately needed is a big screen TV for showing the movie. To help Marilyn get her home ready for our event, garden clean up days have been scheduled for May 2nd and May 9th, (Saturdays) starting at 8 am or whenever you can come. Friday, May 15, 9 am, will be set-up day. If you can provide refreshments, please see Judy McNatt. Natalie Ginger has the parking well planned. If you can docent for an hour-and-a-half, please see Pat Kelley. Girls from New Beginnings will be serving. If you need clothing, please call Marilyn or Mary Vigneau. Mary brings a trunk-full of clothes to all our meetings. White gloves are still needed. The $10 donation will go towards the scholarship fund. To purchase your tickets, please see Ellie Pledger at the May 4th meeting, call the hostess, Marilyn Rogers, 951-852-0131 or Pat Kelley, 951-928-0867.

Words to Walk By "I like long walks, especially when they are taken by people who annoy me." Fred Allen Notes from Members Afar (1) Long-time member MADELINE DODD is now residing in Orange County, but would certainly appreciate receiving a letter from her PVWC friends. Her address is 5829 Los Ramos Circle, Buena Park 90620, telephone 827-9849. (2) ONLY IN A SMALL TOWN Millie Henderson received quite a few calls on her birthday as her birthday was announced on the local radio station. "only in a small town" Recently she was out of town for a couple days. A neighbor became concerned when her trash can wasn't brought in and she had not been seen walking the dog. So the neighbor called the police department who in turn got in touch with Millie's brother, who told them she would be back soon, and that Millie and the dog were fine. It made Millie feel good that someone cared enough to check on her. "only in small town"
